JF012E, iCVT
-
JATCO JF012E (i-CVT) – a compact continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) designed for small city cars, mainly Japanese-market models with 0.66 l engines. The transmission entered service in 2006 and was adapted for the corresponding Suzuki and Subaru vehicle versions.
The JF012E design uses a steel push belt and variable-diameter conical pulleys, which allow the gear ratio to change smoothly without conventional fixed gears. In developing this transmission, particular attention was paid to low mechanical losses, compact dimensions and fuel economy.

Alternative designations:
- JATCO: JF012E
- Subaru: i-CVT (corresponding versions; this designation is also used for other transmissions)
- Additional catalogue designations: iCVT, i-CVT
Vehicle model examples (application depends on production year, engine, market and the specific transmission modification):
- Suzuki Wagon R: corresponding 0.66 l CVT versions from 2006, including FX-S Limited
- Suzuki Cervo: HG21S, corresponding 0.66 l CVT versions, approx. 2006–2009
- Suzuki Alto Lapin: HE22S, corresponding 0.66 l CVT versions from 2008
- Subaru Stella: RN1 / RN2, first generation, corresponding 0.66 l CVT versions, 2006–2011
Important: JF012E transmissions may have different modifications, so their housings, pulleys, belts, valve bodies, control components and other spare parts are not automatically interchangeable. Not all Subaru i-CVT transmissions are JF012E; the identity of the transmissions used in the earlier Subaru Pleo, R1 and R2 models must be checked separately. The JF012E also must not be automatically equated with the newer JF015E / CVT7. Before ordering a transmission or its spare parts, the vehicle VIN or chassis number, the exact transmission code and the original OE number must be checked.
